Gösta was born 1930 in Malmö, Sweden. He completed a PhD in Astronomy in 1964, and worked as an astronomer in Sweden, South Africa, Chile and Australia. His work concerned physics and ages of open clusters of stars as well as the structure of our galaxy. In 1985-1988 Gösta was a Greens member of Kävlinge Council and 1988-1991 was a member of the Swedish Parliament representing the Swedish Greens. During this time he was involved in negotiating the introduction of a carbon tax in Sweden, one of the first European countries to do so. In retirement he has lived in Canberra and was one of the founding members of the ACT Greens in 1992. He has held various positions in both the ACT and Australian Greens.
