Storytelling

The Storytelling Hub brings together members of the New Economy Network Australia (NENA) who believe in the power of stories to inspire change, build connection, and amplify the work of people creating a fair, sustainable, and democratic economy.

This Hub exists to capture and share the voices, ideas, and lived experiences of individuals, organisations, and communities driving the new economy movement across Australia.

Through storytelling, we aim to document the diversity of the movement — from grassroots initiatives to transformative system-wide projects — and to make visible the creativity, cooperation, and care that underpin the new economy in practice.

Our Key Activities

  • Producing Voices of the New Economy, NENA’s official podcast, sharing stories, interviews, and conversations with people building the new economy;
  • Supporting NENA Hubs, members, and partners to share their own stories through audio, writing, and multimedia formats;
  • Building storytelling skills and ethical communication practices rooted in NENA’s cooperative values;
  • Hosting workshops, storytelling circles, and live podcast sessions to strengthen community connections; and
  • Archiving and curating stories that reflect NENA’s collective impact and evolution as a cooperative movement.

NENA Narratives Hub

The Storytelling Hub continues the work of the NENA Narratives Hub, which from 2018-2023 explored the stories that shape how we understand the economy, society, and our place in the world. Recognising that dominant economic narratives—focused on growth, competition, and the exploitation of nature—have contributed to ecological harm and social inequity, the Narratives Hub sought to uncover and amplify alternative narratives. By fostering new stories that prioritise wellbeing, ecological regeneration, and human flourishing, the Narratives Hub supported cultural and social shifts necessary to build a just and sustainable economy.

The Storytelling Hub is open to all NENA members — whether you’re an experienced podcaster, a writer, or simply passionate about amplifying the voices of others. We welcome diverse perspectives and experiences, and aim to co-create an inclusive storytelling platform that reflects the richness of Australia’s new economy movement.
