RIPESS (Intercontinental Network for the Promotion of Social Solidarity Economy) welcomed the recent declaration of the resolution "Promoting the Social and Solidarity Economy for Sustainable Development" by the President of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). It builds on important and longstanding work of the UN Inter-Agency Task Force on Social and Solidarity over many years.
18 April 2023 marked the day when the resolution in support of the Social Solidarity Economy, that Ripess has been working on for so long, was finally ratified.
This is an endorsement by the UN at its highest level (General Assembly) of the importance of the social and solidarity economy for sustainable development for the first time ever!

You may recall a NENA Journal piece from last October (Volume 3, Issue October 2022) which explained how five NENA members along with NENA's Co-Founder Dr. Bronwen Morgan, attended the Asian Solidarity Economy Forum 2022.
At this Forum, the International Labour Organization (ILO) and Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) passed similar resolutions to this most recent one by the UNGA. Between the three it is definitely now a globally endorsed approach that resonates with NENA's values and approach.
